Florida 511 Offers Several Free Ways to Help Golf Fans Traveling to the Event
More than 150,000 golf fans are expected to attend the 2018 THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Tuesday, May 8 through Sunday May 13. During the event, drivers should be aware of conditions on I-95, the I-295 Beltway and State Road A1A. They should also consider one or more alternate routes to and from the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is sharing the free information in this toolkit to remind drivers how the Florida 511 Traveler Information System can help them find the best and safest route to and from TPC Sawgrass during the four-day PGA TOUR tournament.

Florida 511 is a free service provided by FDOT that helps drivers arrive safely and with fewer delays. The user-friendly and customizable system provides real-time traffic information and lets drivers know what conditions they may face. The system also offers alternate routes.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) encourages golf fans to use its Florida 511 Traveler Information System to choose the best route to THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Tuesday, May 8 through Sunday, May 13. More than 150,000 fans are expected to attend the PGA tournament to watch their favorite golfers attempt to conquer the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

Tuesday, May 8: Military Appreciation Day

· Gates open at 7:30 a.m.
· Practice Day for professionals

Wednesday, May 9

Golf fans planning to arrive early for a prime seat in the gallery should be aware of conditions on I-95, the I-295 Beltway and State Road A1A. Tournament organizers recommend taking exit 32 on I-95 and turning east on County Road 210, which becomes Valley Ridge Boulevard. At the intersection of Valley Ridge Boulevard and Nocatee Parkway, turn right and go east on Nocatee Parkway, which will become Palm Valley Road and continue to TPC Sawgrass.

Before leaving, golf fans should check the interactive road map on FL511.com for real-time traffic information and incident alerts in English or Spanish. They can also view roadway cameras showing nearby current driving conditions on their route. The free Florida 511 mobile app, available on the Apple App Store or Google Play, features an interactive map showing traffic speeds and incidents on roads around the user’s location.

Fans can register on the website or mobile app for a My Florida 511 personalized services account to create a custom door-to-door route to the TPC Sawgrass and other favorite destinations. Route-specific text and email alerts can include travel speeds, travel time estimates and information about congestion, construction and incidents.

Additional ways to receive traffic information from Florida 511 include calling 511 toll-free from any phone in the state and following one or more of the statewide, regional or roadway-specific Twitter feeds (#FL511), such as @FL511_Northeast, @FL511_I10 and @FL511_I95.

In addition to information about what’s happening on Florida’s roadways, the 511 phone system also provides free transfers to Florida’s airports, including Jacksonville International Airport, and the neighboring 511 system in Georgia.

FDOT encourages all drivers to check Florida 511 to travel safely and experience fewer delays. Check Florida 511 before leaving or have a passenger check during a trip to avoid using a phone while driving.
